Graded Teams Congress

The 2026 Graded Teams Congress was a great event, hosted by our club on 15 March. We had a record 32 teams playing in 2 grades, with players from all over south-east Queensland.

The A Grade was won by the Stanton Team pictured right (Fay Stanton, Shirley Phillips, Di Rogers, Susie Warren). The B Grade was won by the Hendrix team (Jackie Hendrix - Kay Courts - Margo Solomon - Kerry Thorp), also pictured.

Many thanks to convenor Adrienne, caddies, directors Peter and Mark, Chris for the flowers, the dealers, the team in the kitchen, and to those members who brought nibbles.

Coolum SCCBC Interclub Pairs

On Sunday we had 24 tables playing in the Coolum-SCCBC Interclub Pairs.

Pictured below are the winning pairs from North-South (SUSIE WARREN - DI ROGERS) and East-West (LYN MARTIN - JIM MARTIN) with event organiser KEN DAWSON.

Ken also announced the best 'B' pairs in the field - North-South: MARJORIE MACKINNON - LYNDA LAFFAN and East-West: KWAI SEE BARKER - LOUISE TAYLOR-SMITH.

Every year, the Masterpoint Centre lists the top masterpoint earners in each masterpoint rank on a National and State basis. For 2025, several of our members made the top 20 in the State for their rank.

Qld Senior Teams 2025

The Qld Senior Teams was held on Sunday 14 December, and had a side Teams event for players with under 300 masterpoints.

The main event was won by the Rogers team (made up of Susie Warren, Di Rogers, Fay Stanton and Gabrielle Elich - all members of our Club.

What a wonderful day played in the festive spirit. Thanks to director Peter, the dealing team, caddies, and Chris and her many helpers for catering and bar service, and to Congress Convenor Adrienne.

Angela's 90th birthday

A special birthday was celebrated this week.

Angela has been part of the club for more than 25 years, and directed our Tuesday morning session for many of them.

Zone Graded Pairs 2025

Zone Graded Pairs 2025

The 2025 Zone Graded Pairs was held on Sunday 23 November at our Club. It was held in three separate grades, covering 26 tables.

Members from our Club featured in the honours list in all 3 grades.

  • A Grade was a clean sweep, with 1st Ken Dawson and Alison Dawson, 2nd Lyn and Jim Martin, and 3rd Di Rogers - Susie Warren
  • B Grade 3rd place went to Marjorie MacKinnon / Lynda Laffan
  • C Grade 3rd place went to Rhys Dewar / Yuko Colhthurst

President's Trophy 2025

President's Trophy 2025

The 2025 President's Trophy was held in this month, with 18 pairs competing. Winners were Alison Dawson and Ken Dawson, who also won the title for the last two events. Second place went to Steve Brookes and Geoff Olsen. Winners are picture here with club president Gabrielle Elich.

This event is scored on a handicap basis too, and handicap winners were Rosemary Crowley and Richard Perry.

Qld Senior Pairs

Qld Senior Pairs

Our club hosted the Qld Senior Pairs on Sunday 9 November.

There were 32 pairs from all over south east Queensland in a strong field. Overall winners were John Morris - Neven Burica (pictured right holding the trophy, with Club President Gabrielle Elich). Runners-up were Alison Dawson and Ken Dawson.

An Under 300 Masterpoints Pairs event was held alongside the Qld Senior Pairs, and this attracted 18 pairs. Winners were Peter Zanki - Mark Harnack with runners-up with Jackie Hendrix / Margo Solomon.

Graded Pairs Congress

Our 2025 Graded Pairs congress attracted 27 tables (a big increase from last year's 22 tables), with players from across the South-East.

We had 3 separate grades, and this is a popular format for players at all levels of experience.

Winners of the A Grade were Alison Dawson and Liz Zeller, B grade winners were Julia Caldwell and Kerry Rutter, and C Grade winners were Suzy Brownlow and Karen Gosney. Pictures below.

Restricted Pairs Championship

Restricted Pairs Championship

The 2025 Restricted Pairs Championship was played this month. Winners (pictured top with President Gabrielle Elich (left) were Linda Lee - Siobhan Davies and runners-up were Jay Kent and Dave Richards.

A total of 16 pairs contested the event.

At our AGM on 1 September, long time member Gaye McAuliffe was presented with Life Membership. Life membership is conferred on members who contribute years of outstanding service to the Club and Gaye has certainly done that since she joined in 1995.

Interclub Teams Championship 2025 - the trohpy comes home!

The Interclub Teams Championship was held held at Caloundra on Saturday 30 August. Teams from Sunshine Coast, Caloundra, Coolum and Noosa bridge clubs competed for the perpetual trophy across 3 grades. After a few years in the wilderness, the trophy has been brought home, thanks to the Sunshine Coast teams that played. 2025 Club Teams Championship

The 2025 Teams Championship was contested over three Thursdays in July and 12 teams competed in an all-play-all event.

Winners were the Olsen team: David Christian, Geoff Olsen, Lyn and Jim Martin and Steve Brookes. Runners up were the Dawson team Sue Mabin - Alison Dawson- Ken Dawson - Adrienne Kelly - Gabrielle Elich.

June Congress 2025

June Congress 2025

The 2025 June Congress was held 21-22 June. A strong field turned out for both days and the event attracted a number of players from Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gympie and Hervey Bay as well as our own region.

Saturday's Pairs event was won by Alison Dawson / Ken Dawson. The Category B prize went to Howard Baker / Sue Gardner (though Elizabeth Van Vugt / Julie Scott who were the highest placed pair in B category obtained 3rd overall) and Category C to Sue Mittermair / Julie-Ann Bradwyn.

The Teams event on Sunday was won by the Hooper team, made up of Beverley and John Stacey, and Pippa and Andrew Hooper. The B category prize went to the Gibbards Team (Ross Shardlow, Debbie and Gary Gibbards and Peter Gruythuysen), and the C category prize went to Gosney Team (Tom Murphy, Brian Clark, Karen Gosney and Suzy Brownlow).

2025 Pairs Championship

2025 Pairs Championship

The 2025 Pairs Championship was run as an all-play-all event, and attracted 24 pairs. This event was played over 3 Monday afternoons this month.

Winners were Jim Martin and Peter Busch, and runners-up were Rosemary Crowley and Richard Perry, though Rosemary couldn't make the final session today and Bill Lindsay substituted. (Winners pictured at right with Club President Warren Holmes).

Novice Pairs Championship

Novice Pairs Championship

The 2025 Novice Pairs Championship was held in May, with 40 pairs contending - a great turnout.

A Swiss Pairs event was held over 3 weeks, playing 12 matches, and was ably run by Steve Murray.

Winners were Ercelle Smith and June Matthews and second place went to Kim and Lesley Rouse. These four players are pictures at right, with club teacher Lisa Phillips.

This is an honour board event, and is run annually. Red masterpoints were awarded.
